What we collect

If you subscribe to the newsletter — we store your email address, optional first name, subscription status, signup source, and dates needed to operate the newsletter. Unsubscribing stops future newsletters; a minimal subscription record may remain to honor that choice.

Accounts store your email, optional name, a hashed password, saved entries, and membership status. Essential session cookies support sign-in, forms, and a short visit-counting window. We record first-party aggregate events such as sample views, signups, and checkout starts. Conversion-event rows do not contain emails, IP addresses, or visitor identifiers. Search and engagement logs help improve the reference; legacy logs may contain IP or browser information. We do not use advertising pixels or third-party analytics.

Reader contributions and word explanations

Unsent note drafts stay in this tab’s session storage until sent, cleared, or the tab is closed. Submitted contributions are linked to your account and retained with their review history. Corrections stay private. Experiences appear publicly only after review and your consent, using your chosen display name. Your email is not published. Withdrawing removes the public experience; a private record remains for review integrity. Contact us to request deletion. Reports are private to the review team.

Saved glossary words stay in this browser’s local storage. Sentences in the glossary tool are processed locally and are not sent or saved. General dictionary definitions are served from a copy of WordNet stored on SO·DYK; no lookup is sent to an outside dictionary service. Our server caches definitions. Ordinary server access logs can include lookup URLs.

How we use it

Newsletter subscribers receive the free Sunday Letter, its welcome email, and links to SO·DYK resources and optional collections. Account holders may receive essential account or payment messages. Creating an account or purchasing membership does not automatically subscribe you to the newsletter. Service providers process information needed to deliver these services; we do not sell it.

Unsubscribing

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email hi@sodyk.com to be removed immediately. We will delete your record within 7 days of your request.

Server logs

Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and uptime monitoring. These logs are not shared, are rotated regularly, and are never used to build a profile of you.

Third-party services

Stripe processes membership payments and billing details; SO·DYK stores Stripe identifiers and subscription status rather than full card details. Resend delivers site emails. Google Fonts serves typography and may receive font requests. These providers process data under their own policies. Printable worksheets do not submit or save your personal health answers to SO·DYK.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
