Evidence in context
Turmeric spice and differently formulated curcumin supplements are not interchangeable. Early osteoarthritis findings are promising, but higher-quality evidence is needed. Differences in curcumin content and absorption make products difficult to compare.
Liver injury has been reported with some formulations designed to increase absorption. Turmeric supplements may be unsafe during pregnancy. Review the exact product with your provider.
